Tri-C Counseling Department Presents:  2014 Mental Health & Wellness Seminar

Ethical Care Coordination with Minors & Young Adults: Managing Confidentiality, Consent & Collaboration”

Dr. Elizabeth Welfel (Cleveland State University) will provide a 3 hour presentation on the ethical care coordination with minors and young adults.  Issues of confidentiality, trust, and responsible collaboration will be discussed. This workshop will provide practical strategies for ethical responses, based on the ethical standards of the professions and the work of ethics scholars. Numerous case examples will be provided.

"Psychotropic Medication Use and Misuse in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults”

Dr. Elliott Ingersoll (Cleveland State University) will provide a 3 hour presentation on the use of psychotropic medications and their increased prescription for children, adolescents and young adults. Professionals working with students need to become familiar with the types and effects of medications, as well as incidence and trends in diagnosis and prescribing patterns. This overview will highlight recent findings related to disorders like Bipolar I Disorder in this population, medications used for outbursts, and changes in diagnostic criteria in the DSM-V. The role of the counselor, psychologist, and educator will be emphasized.

The training will be geared towards clinicians working on college campuses or with college-going clients, as well as those clinicians in

community-based settings.  The training is open to licensed counselors and social workers working on college campuses, community

mental health agencies, counselor educators, psychologists, graduate students in counseling programs, and nurses.

CONTINUING EDUCATION?  OhioMHAS Continuing Education Committee is an approved provider of Continuing Education for RNs and LPNs for the Ohio Board of Nursing and has awarded 6.0 CE contact hours per OBN003 92-1864CO.  OhioMHAS has been approved as a provider of Continuing Professional Education credit by the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist Board.  6.0 CEs have been awarded to Social Workers per RSX088902-2082CO and to Counselors per RCX068915-2066CO.  This program meets the three (3) hour required continuing education that addresses social work ethics or cultural competency for social workers and legal and ethical issues for professional counselors per OAC 4757-9.  OhioMHAS is approved by OPA-MCE to offer continuing education for Psychologists. 6.0 MCEs are awarded per 311334820-1262CO.  This program meets three (3) of the four (4) hours of required continuing education that addresses ethics/cultural competency for Psychologists per OAC 4732.
