Substance Abuse: Awareness and Insights

The concerns surrounding all types of drug and alcohol abuse remain a priority of focus for the health of all generations, including the aging population of our society. Health and social service providers should be alert for symptoms that may signal a need for help and intervention. This program is designed to provide participants with a knowledge of the categories of substances that are frequently abused and their potential manifestations, both physically and behaviorally. There will also be a discussion of recovery, especially the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and its relation to addiction.Also discussed will be  the distinctions and healing of the phenomena of shame and guilt.

Fee: $80, which includes lunch, refreshments, and workshop materials

Continuing education: 8.0 hours, approved for counselors and social workers, nurses, and funeral directors.
