Working with people and the leaders of their community can be a rewarding and a painful experience for many reasons.  The purpose of this presentation is to inspire mental health professionals, clergy, and faith based community leadership to change Cleveland ’s people helping landscape.  We will focus on theoretical and clinical foundations, skills, and motivations toward helping people and effectively work together.  This workshop will address ways we can practically contribute to the safety and well-being of the people we serve.   Vision and recommended strategies toward addressing specific and common issues such as childhood abuse, mood disorders, accessibility to mental health services, and poverty will be discussed through case studies.   We will also consider opportunities in marketing and developing a steady client base for people who see faith as a resource.

CEU OBJECTIVES

  1. Increase awareness and orientation to the similarities and differences between the clinical, non-profit, and spiritual people helping communities.
  2. Explore the possibilities for collaboration between mental health providers and community leaders.
  3. Identify measureable outcomes and best practices when there is a healthy collaboration between mental health, social services, and faith community leadership.
  4. Recommend interviewing, assessment, and treatment plans that can be used by clinicians, non-profit people helpers, and leaders of faith communities to address common problems including: mood disorders, childhood trauma (PTSD), accessibility to mental health services, and poverty.
