Continuing Education Opportunity
The life experiences of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) persons and same-sex couples are often fraught with misunderstanding, prejudice and insensitivity. For them, things often don’t get better with age. Learn about the unique challenges often faced by aging LGBT persons and available legal protections for LGBT persons and same–sex couples, including planning for a child with special needs raised in an LGBT home.

9:10 a.m. Viewing of award-winning documentary GenSilent
10:15 a.m. Break
10:30 a.m. Jaime Bishop, M.A., L.S.W., and Johni Fiber, M.Ed., PCC-S, discuss the unique issues faced by aging LGBT persons
11:30 a.m. Elena Lidrbauch, J.D., M.Ed., and Amanda Buzo, J.D., discuss the legal challenges faced by the aging LGBT population, available protections and advance planning for LGBT persons raising children with special needs
12:25 p.m. Wrap up and Evaluations
Fee: $15.00, plus at least one nonperishable food item to be donated to the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland
Application has been approved for 3 CE credits for Counselors, Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapists. Nurses are also permitted to utilize these CEs for their own licensure.
